"As a single mother, the struggles are high, but having Assurance Wireless to help me keep in constant contact with my 10-year old son while I’m at work is a huge help"

WARREN, N.J. – No surprise, Mother’s Day is one of the most popular days in the world to place phone calls. A study from VIP Communications, Inc. found that Americans make on average 11.3 percent more phone calls on Mother’s Day than any other time. [1] While Mother’s and Father’s Day are wonderful times to get in touch with parents, what about the other 363 days of the year?

Staying in touch the rest of the year has its challenges, especially for aging parents with grown children and working parents. For those going through tough financial times, there is a smart way to help families as well as children and their aging parents and grandparents stay in touch.

Assurance Wireless provides a free wireless phone, 250 free voice minutes and 250 free text messages monthly to low-income eligible residents in 40 states including, as of March 2013, California.  Assurance Wireless is a Lifeline Assistance program supported by the federal Universal Service Fund.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau[2], more than 3.9 million families run by women only with children less than 18 years of age live below the federal poverty line as do more than 3.7 million senior citizens over the age of 65[3].

In addition to keeping families connected, Assurance Wireless helps eligible residents stay connected to their children’s schools, relatives, health care providers, daycare centers, care-givers and neighbors.

“As a single mother, the struggles are high, but having Assurance Wireless to help me keep in constant contact with my 10-year old son while I’m at work is a huge help,” stated Jessica L., an Assurance Wireless customer from Texas.

The Lifeline Assistance program is available for only one wireline or wireless account per household. Enrollment in this government benefit program is available to consumers who meet federal or state-specific eligibility criteria. Residents may qualify for Assurance Wireless if they are on certain public assistance programs, such as Medicaid or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Applicants may also qualify based on low income and must provide proof of program participation or proof of income. Eligibility for Assurance Wireless varies by state.

In addition to a voice mail account[4] and call waiting,Assurance Wireless provides caller ID and access to911 in case of emergency. Applicants are also able to keep their current home or cell phone number. Beyond the 250 free voice minutes and 250 text messages each month, customers can choose from other options to pay for additional minutes, texting, international calling and more at competitive rates.

Eligible residents can apply for Assurance Wireless by calling (toll-free) 800-395-2171 or visiting www.assurancewireless.com
